Support available

We provide a range of support to RCAM veterans and serving personnel and their dependants which includes financial help, advice and mental wellbeing support and are supported by SSAFA, The Royal British Legion and many other larger military charities. Advice and support is available to those in need.

Benevolence and Welfare to Veterans

Benevolence and Welfare is available to all Veteran Army Musicians who have subscribes to the RCAM Charity or their Regimental Charity pre 1994.

As a grant making charity the Royal Corps of Army Music Charity works closely with the Soldiers’, Sailors’, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) and The Royal British Legion (RBL), who provide a link to numerous caseworkers around the UK. Those requiring assistance should contact SSAFA or RBL and a caseworker will be assigned. Once a need has been identified the caseworker will approach the RCAM Charity and request financial support for those in situations of hardship, distress or need. The Grants Committee will then consider providing the financial support recommended. Disbursement is usually made to the referring organisation rather than directly to the individual.

Assistance to Serving Members

Serving members in need can make an application direct to the Corps Secretary or use the process outlined above. The Grants Committee will consider each request on a case-by-case basis.

Case Study - Musician A

Musician A is a serving Army Musician and member of the Charity. The Musician’s child was in need of a specialist medical diagnosis. Waiting lists via the NHS were almost 2 years and the detrimental impact on the Musician’s mental health and wellbeing was significant, as was the effect on the family itself. After due consideration and financial background checks The Grants Committee offered to contribute towards the cost of a private diagnosis.

On completion of the diagnosis the Musician sent a letter of thanks to the Trustees describing the Trust assistance as ‘lifechanging’ which demonstrated the significant positive impact of the Trusts support.

Case Study - Musician B

Veteran B was suffering form an illness that seriously impacted on their mobility and ability to walk any distance.

The RCAM Charity was able to provide financial assistance to help with the purchase of a Mobility Scooter to enable Veteran B to get out and about with his family.

The Kneller Hall Club was established over 100 years ago, to bring together graduates of the bandmaster course, serving and retired.
