Army Reserve Bands Supporting Key local events

The Royal Signals (Northern) Band supported a special Lord‑Lieutenant’s ceremony in Darlington, bringing music to an evening that celebrated service and dedication.

The event honoured Army Reservists, cadets and volunteers from across the region. In total, 16 people received awards. The Northern Band performed a mix of popular and classical pieces, including Stacy’s Mom and How Deep Is Your Love.

A brass ensemble from the band, made up of six musicians, helped create a warm and memorable atmosphere throughout the night. Their performance showed the band’s skill and commitment to supporting community events.

Warrant Officer Class Two (WO2) Alastair Smith said: “The music provided by the band elevated the ceremony, bringing people together to celebrate the achievements of our local heroes.”

One of the band members, Corporal (Cpl) Liz Harris, also received special recognition. She was awarded the Lord‑Lieutenant’s Certificate of Meritorious Service. This high‑level award is given to people who have shown outstanding service and gone above what is normally expected.
